Episode 4 – Leland Barneys Experience with Church Elders
Hello there and welcome to this fourth episode of the life stories of Leland Barney podcast with your host, Christine Reidhead.

Leland begins by explaining how working at the world’s fair gave Barney more joy. He remembers going to general motors and having a glance at the car of the future and how he got to ride in it.
He explains how his brother once visited him and took him and some other missionaries at a Chinese spot to eat. They ordered and the bill was a little bit heftier than expected and he had to tell the Chinese guys to cut the bill for him. He says the Chinese knew little English and Barney jokingly explains how the Chinese lad said yes to almost everything they said.
He then talks about Elder Osman, who was very sharp when it came to memorizing Bible verses, he did that to perfection more than anyone he had seen. Barney then continues and narrates about how his companion, Elder Philips, who was a little bit noisy in the church.
He remembers a time when they baptized an elderly man whose wife had died and the man was going to move to Salt Lake City. Barney was going to talk to the mission president and maybe ask for permission to drive him home. He says it was a requirement for everyone to report to the mission president’s office first, after any given mission.
