Tom Davis Leadership Podcast – Episode 5
Coping with change as a Leader
In the fifth episode of the Tom Davis Leadership podcast, your host Christine Reidhead asks Tom how leaders should cope and succeed with the constant shifting of the world.
Here are the key points of this episode;
- How leaders should try and adjust to change.
- He discusses technology.
- He discusses how it’s relevant to have a vision of the future.
Mr. Davis says times have changed in terms of technology when compared to way back, when there was a different way of doing things. He talks up the Agrarian culture and says technology is speeding up change.
He says that if you want to deal with change, you have to read and network a lot. If you stay in one place and talk to the same people, one might get caught up short and that’s the reason why you must be educated. He says it’s important to attend conferences as a leader, and also use assessment strategies where you observe what you are doing and try to reform.
Tom Davis highlights that the most important thing is to develop some sort of vision, because nowadays predicting the future is not that difficult. Tom describes that the clock is no longer an effective measure of time, and hence, one should have a view towards the future as a leader. It is therefore good to understand that the world is not standing and you should find ways of adapting as the change comes in.
As the episode continues, Tom says that leaders should not wait to implement things, but should have the guts to take risks in today’s world. Leaders should understand that change is hard to deal with and they should have a responsibility to help people understand it. Doing things quickly regardless of the mistakes is advisable because failure is part of the process.
Make sure you tune in and listen to Tom Davis’s take of adapting to change as a leader.
