Tom Davis Leadership Podcast – Episode 8
Managing people in an organization
Hello and welcome to the eighth episode of the Tom Davis leadership podcast. Your host Christine Reidhead asks Tom about his style of managing people.
Key points from the podcast episode;
- Tom’s style of managing people.
- He emphasizes the need for communication in an administration.
Tom first responds by saying the primary responsibility of a manager is to help people become successful and organize them by trying to remove their barriers. Nevertheless, entrusting group wisdom is important and managers should be open about things. They should have the ability and willingness to be able to follow up on things. If one says something, he or she should make some sort of follow up and ensure that it happens. Tom notes that by doing so, it makes people trust and have faith in you.If you are managing people, you should believe in those people and you need to make sure that they know that .
Mr. Davis says that greeting everyone in an institution is considered to be a good thing. It’s acts like some sort of acknowledgment that creates an environment that is friendly and comfortable to work in.
A manager should be generous and build benefits for the employees. This builds a positive learning environment. The whole point is working together so as to effectively move into a better future.
As an administrator, one should not hold onto things but communicate with people so that they can understand what is going on in an organization. In this episode, Tom says that communicating via emails doesn’t work well compared to holding face to face meetings. He reminds us that without following up, there can’t be successful management. He quotes that diversity is a strength and not a weakness and according to his management style, he doesn’t act like he’s superior to anybody which is not the appropriate way for managers to conduct themselves.
Make sure you listen to the episode and learn a few management tips which Tom gladly shares.
