In a learning organization where people are always learning, there is improved quality of work and an positive atmosphere. Tom talks about the need for continually improving ourselves. Tom says that a leader should ask people what they think while noting it on paper.
The process of continuous improvement includes collecting and analyzing data. Strategic planning and evaluation processes are part and parcel of a learning organization. He says that a learning organization should be able to deal with change because change is constant these days. Tom goes ahead and discusses how we should be able to inspire the community which we are working with. He says that as a leader, you should get people excited and motivated, because learning is an exciting thing. A manager should get people ingrained in that organization and help them succeed by creating a conducive learning atmosphere.
As the podcast wears on, Tom talks about generosity and how it affects an organization. He says that we should have consequences as administrators. Tom says that generosity takes away, at least to a large degree, the need for consequence. Generosity should be exchanged between the employers and workers within a certain learning organization, it makes people feel good and comfortable. If people are strong in an organization, then the organization is strong.
Tom says generosity results in positive reinforcement rather than negative. A learning organization is important, but also a generous organization inside the functioning learning system is also equally important.
